IISA World Championships Murmansk 14-17 March 2019

Dear GB Ice swimmers

The IISA GB Board is seeking expressions of interest for the 1000m event. Team GB can send 10 athletes who will be selected by IISA GB Board. The conditions at Murmansk will be extreme with water temperature expected to be around 0C and very cold air – racing 1km in these conditions is very different to swimming 1km in 4C water.

We are looking to send a competitive team which will give us the most chance of winning medals in the 1000m. The board will be considering, in addition to the general criteria, recent times in IISA pool events in the last 18-24 months, experience of swimming distance at zero or 1 degree together with any ice miles completed.

If interested, please send me a short email expressing your interest before 15 October 2018. Please include your name, gender, date of birth, age 31 December 2019, and anticipated seeding time for 1000m. Email:

We are also looking for very fast swimmers for the 4 x 250m
country relay. They don’t have to be the 1000m swimmers but must do at least one other event in Murmansk (Arctic Cup). Please e-mail if you are interested in this event. Selection for the Country relay may be finalised after the IISA GB 2019 Championships.

IISA GB is keen to finalise the GB team asap as it takes time to get visas for Russia and book flights etc. All costs to be paid for by competitors.

It is expected that all swimmers selected will compete at the GB Ice Swimming Championships 5 &6 Jan 2019 (Venue TBC soon).

Thank you

Kate Steels-Fryatt
